Common wisdom tells you that moving into an apartment under a rock & roll drummer is pure hell. But Michigan transplant and song-cobbler/guitarist t.Mule shirked that notion when he moved into a Boulder, CO apartment below Darin Graber (an Indiana man). It was the beginning of a hell-raising ride into the underbelly of Outlaw Americana. With the addition of Brian McCosky on Stratocaster and Dan O’Donnell on bass (both Mudbugz, a Kalamazoo, MI zydeco outfit), they began to roll their own: One-part Split Lip Rayfield, one-part Lucero, and one-part Tallest Man on Earth, or so they have been told.
And thus dawned The Longest Day of the Year, and the sun is still rising.
The new day brought a raucous sound to the Colorado music scene. A roughneck, guitar-driven explosion of new-fangle/old-timey country and rock music began making the local pub crawls in Boulder and Denver. TLDOTY plays music that brings you back to a time when they put up a chain link fence between the crowd and the band. Taking on the task of delivering stories that tug the tattered sleeve of shifting relationships between a man and his family, religion, vices, nature, and himself. Hammering together their influences from Hank Sr. to Modest Mouse, Avett Brothers to Tom Waits, and from Hoots & Hellmouth to Black Keys,” they worked from the ground up building the tall wooden gates labelled Outlaw Americana.
